The Perfect Method for a Trending Market
Here we are going to look at breakout trading which is simply buying new highs and selling new lows on a Forex chart.
The reason it works is obvious - Forex markets trend for long periods and these trends start and continue from new market highs or lows and going with breakouts can put you in the really big trends which pile up the big profits.
Why Most People Can’t Trade Breakouts
We will look at how to trade breakouts in more detail in a moment - but first we just want to make a quick point why most traders cannot trade breakouts and the reason is they are obsessed with exact market timing and a breakout doesn’t give you that, you miss the first bit of the move.
Most traders want breakouts to pull back and then trade them but once the break occurs, odds favour a continuation in favour of the breakout.
You are trading the reality of price change and this means the odds are on your side. Ok, you miss a bit at the start but look at it this way, if it’s a good break, there will be plenty more to come.
Breakout Methods for Success
A great way to trade is to buy valid breakouts which have been tested a few times (at least 3 times and the more the better) and are in at least two widely spaced time frames (minimum a week) Look for a break to occur of a level trades see as important support or resistance. When it does, use some momentum oscillators to confirm that velocity of price is accelerating through the breakout then enter the trading signal.
If you want an even simpler way of doing it, you can use the simple system based below which has been effective for over 25 years and was devised by trading legend Richard Donchian.
The 4 Week Rule
This system is simple and gives you just one rule to follow and here it is:
Buy a break of a 4 week high and hold then, when a 4 week low is made, liquidate the position and go short. Keep buying and selling, new 4 week highs and lows and always maintain a position in the market.
Simple? Yes but highly effective test it and see.
